Death of Pastor Fred Krautwurst

May 1, 2020

In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, we commend the following servant to the everlasting care of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:

Pastor Fred Krautwurst

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the death of The Rev. Fred Krautwurst. Pastor Krautwurst died Wednesday, April 29, 2020. We mourn his death, we celebrate his life, and we commend him into God’s loving care.

Pastor Krautwurst served several congregations in the Southeastern Synod and held membership at Cross of Life, Roswell, GA, in his retirement.   He also served as a chaplain in the Air Force reserves.  He served as a dean in our synod, as well as a Constitutional Reviewer for many years.  In 2018, Pr. Krautwurst celebrated 50 years in the ordained ministry.

We pray for all who grieve, especially Pastor Krautwurst's family.  He is survived by his former spouse, Darleen Krautwurst, sister Linda Lawrence and her husband Tom of Silver Spring, MD, his daughter Amy Swafford, his grandchildren Haley Swafford, Philip Schiltz and Lena Matheny, and great-grandchildren Wyatt and Kyndalea, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Jennifer and Craig Schiltz, Philip’s adoptive parents, have been a source of unfailing love and support for Fred and had “adopted” him as part of their family.

A worship service celebrating Pastor Fred’s life and ministry will take place at a later date, with his remains being interred in the Cross of Life Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to:

Let us pray:

“O God of grace and glory, we remember before you today our brother, Fred . We thank you for giving her to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see that death has been swallowed up in the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that we may live in confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered to our heavenly home in the company of all your saints; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.”
