Death of Deacon Virginia "Gini" Knueppel

May 25, 2020

In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, we commend the following servant to the everlasting care of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:

Deacon Virginia "Gini" Knueppel

We mourn the death of Deacon Virginia "Gini" Knueppel. Ms. Knueppel died Saturday, May 23, 2020. We mourn her death, we celebrate her life, and we commend her into God’s loving care.

Gini died peacefully in hospice care at The Phoenix in Tucker, GA. She was active with St. John's Lutheran Church, in Atlanta, especially with their Tuesday night Bible study, Sunday worship, Advent and Lent planning, and so many fellowship gatherings. She was so proud to be a member of St. John's!

Gini worked as an actress, as a teacher, and in multiple capacities in the Church, in congregational, synodical, and national positions. She was a rostered Deacon in the ELCA.  Gini was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Knueppel. They were married for 67 years. She has three daughters: JoDee Collick (husband Dan), Jill Knueppel (husband Rev. Craig Storlie), and Pastor Nancy Christensen (husband Rev. Gary Christensen). There are four grandchildren -- Christopher and Amanda, Michael and Sarah, and six great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's at a future date. Please keep Ms. Knueppel's family in your prayers and surround them with the spirit of resurrection joy, even while they grieve the loss of her presence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to:

Let us pray:

“O God of grace and glory, we remember before you today our sister, Gini. We thank you for giving her to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see that death has been swallowed up in the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that we may live in confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered to our heavenly home in the company of all your saints; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.”
