March is Women's History Month and our synod is blessed to have faithful women who contribute at different levels and serve in many capacities. It was such a delight to feature on social media these women, who, each in her own way, answers the call to serve God and her neighbors with love and compassion. Check out their stories here. There are so many additional faithful women in our synod! Reach out and thank one or two or several. We give thanks for all our faithful women who are spreading the love of Christ!

The Ecumenical Consultation on Protocols for Worship, Fellowship, and Sacraments produced this material. Here is a quote from the introduction:
As we are writing these materials (in February 2021), the number of new daily cases of COVID-19 in the United States has only begun to decrease while deaths
continue to climb.
Our work relies on sound public health guidance to call Christians to
responsible decisions about gathering and safe practices when they gather.

Are you stepping into unfamiliar territory where you must supervise others, or have you been supervising others for some time without a clear understanding of what you’re doing? Supervision, especially in a faith-based environment, requires learning new skills – probably skills you did not learn during your professional formation. This event provides you with practical skills and tools for supervising the work of others, and aligning the work of the team with the overall goals of the congregation.

Five Sessions Available: May 13, June 9, August 19, Sep. 29, and Nov. 4, 2021
Rooted in Scripture and grounded in Bowen family systems theory, this workshop identifies differentiation of self and anxiety as two key variables impacting human functioning. Leadership and Anxiety looks at the challenges presented by the rising levels of anxiety being experienced in churches today, as well as the role that self-differentiated leadership can play in calming such anxiety. Works of fine art illustrating Biblical themes help facilitate theological reflection on the themes being presented.

At a challenging time, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Detroit, MI) knew where to turn. The local bank said it was pointless for the suburban Detroit congregation to apply for a Paycheck Protection Program loan. So Good Shepherd’s pastor reached out to the ELCA Federal Credit Union, which, thanks to its partnership with the Mission Investment Fund, was poised to be just the resource Good Shepherd needed. Ms. Elaina - a high school student and member of the synod's Diversity & Justice task force shares...
"A girl came over and she wanted to buy a donut and she had paid for it and she asked what I was selling them for. I told her that we were selling the donuts to bring in speakers to our club and buy t-shirts, and then she asked what the club was trying to accomplish, I was proud to tell her that we were trying to raise awareness for minority groups who get silenced in our community, and help educate the school on how to be more open-minded people to those who are different than us. Let me tell you, her face turned red, she backed up and said..."

This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.
Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

The Asian and Pacific Islander Association of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America issued a statement on March 4, 2021 addressing the increase in violence directed toward Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
The statement calls the church to declare a Sunday during this Lenten season to lament in order to express solidarity with, help in healing, and support Asian American victims of violence. March 21, 2021, the Fifth Sunday in Lent, is named as a common date for this day of lament.

"The COVID-related surge in anti-Asian violence is physically and spiritually assaulting Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. This violence re-emerged from America's historical and pervasive sin of racism. Asian American and Pacific Islander children and adults are facing assaults with racial slurs, bullying, spitting, physical injury, and even death. These are not new in communities where Peoples of Color live. These violent acts of racism have and are happening in cities and towns across the United States. The virus of racism cannot be allowed to run rampant..."
