Lent 2022 Lectionary Study with Joy Moore

We will gather via ZOOM and report out on disaster activities in the synod and in our congregations followed by a guest presentation on various disaster topics.

We are excited to invite Pastor Mary Canniff-Kuhn as our presenter at this year’s Conference Caucus Day to present on “Storytelling and Evangelism”. Following our program with Pastor Mary, attendees will be able to meet with their conference caucus to elected Conference leadership, elected Synod Council representatives for Conferences 6-9, and discuss ministry opportunities together. This meeting will be held on zoom.

Making Parents Aware - Suicide Prevention workshop

Monday, March 7, 2022 - via ZOOM

7-8:15pm ET / 6-7:15pm CT

The second leading cause of death amongst 18-30-year-olds is suicide.   That is enough to concern any parent of a young adult.  

Our young adults have struggled mightily of late.  Anxiety, depression, emotional and social stressors, not to mention dealing with a pandemic.  Our young people are experiencing more challenges than ever before. How can we help?

Come to this workshop to learn some basic warning signs and tool to help you engage with the young people in your life who are experiencing anxiety, depression, or thoughts of suicide. 

No matter the age of your children or the children you work with, you are welcome to attend this workshop.

 

 

2022 SESLYO Assembly

March 18-20, 2022

Every year the youth of the synod are invited to gather "in assembly" to worship, grow in faith, learn from youth-led workshops, and discuss issues relevant to the youth of our synod.

Our SESLYO (Southeastern Synod Lutheran Youth Organization) board plans and develops the entirety of this event, which allows our board to work on their leadership skills.

When we gather, we also elect a NEW SELSYO BOARD, so please look out for a registration link soon.

Join us June 12-17, 2022, at the University of West Alabama, in Livingston, AL, for another week of faith formation at the Southeastern Synod's longest-standing discipleship formation event: AFFIRM!

Candidacy Committee Update

Next Meeting:  April 28-30, 2022

Deadline for submitting application:  February 15, 2022

We will meet with potential candidates for Rostered Ministry (Word and Service and Word and Sacrament) and current candidates in their process. Please pray for those coming before the committee and for our committee members as they do this important work.

All materials from candidates who will be meeting with the Candidacy Committee need to have those materials submitted to Pastor Jill Henning at jhenning@elca-ses.org by the February 15th deadline.

"Now is the Time" - ELCA Study Guide on "Explanation of the Declaration of the ELCA to People of African Descent"

"Now Is the Time" stresses realism, self-examination and accountability as the church acknowledges and apologizes for the history and impact of slavery and systemic racism. The study guide focuses on deepening our understanding of this history as participants engage in often-difficult conversation and reflection to move the church toward racial healing and justice.The five-part study resource, with a guide and participant materials, is available at elca.org/Resources/Racial-Justice.

4th Annual Quilting Bee at Lutheranch

Join quilters for the 4th Annual Quilting Bee at Lutheranch. Led by Holly Anderson, the theme of this year’s retreat will be “versatility”, where we’ll practice tapping into our innate ability as God’s children to embrace change. Quilters of all ages and abilities are invited to come to learn new techniques or simply enjoy spending time together with other quilters while working on their own projects.

Online Yoga Classes

Fridays - 10-11am ET / 9-10am CT

A gentle yoga class for beginners and those who want to begin again is being taught by Pastor Beth Birkholz online. It will be from 10-11 a.m. EST every Friday. A mat and/or chair, blocks (or books) and a blanket are helpful but not necessary. The entire class is accessible to do from a chair and will involve meditation and gentle stretching.
