February 2022 - Frederick McKinley Jones

Meet Frederick McKinley Jones, born May 17, 1893, in Covington, Kentucky, near Cincinnati, Ohio.  He served in France in World War I. After he returned home, he worked as a garage mechanic, and with this experience, he developed a self-starting gasoline motor. His mastery of electronic devices was largely self-taught, through work experience and the inventing process.

Jones was one of the most prolific Black inventors ever. Frederick Jones patented more than 50 inventions but is best known for inventing a practical automatic refrigeration system for long-haul trucks died on February 21, 1961. Preaching Workshop - "What am I Going to Say?" (online)

Thursday, March 10, 2022

2:30-3:30pm ET / 1:30-2:30pm CT

This is a free, practical preaching workshop by Backstory Preaching. As preachers begin their sermon prep and open the text, the first question they often ask is "What am I going to say?" It's a question fueled by anxiety that they won't find something worthwhile to say—or worse, won't have anything to say—especially when they've seen the text a thousand times before. But what if they never had to ask that question again? This one-hour workshop will guide lay and ordained preachers through the simple process that lets them see the text with fresh eyes, allows the message to reveal itself, and draw them closer to God at the same time. This session is offered by the Rev. Dr. Lisa Cressman, founding steward of Backstory Preaching

Eaton, has issued a statement calling for peace in Ukraine. “Though we have been anxious about the recent growing tensions between Ukraine and Russia and between Russia and the NATO countries in recent weeks, we remain deeply concerned, as we have been since 2014, for the impact of this ongoing conflict on innocent civilians throughout Ukraine,” the statement read, in part. “All parties to the conflict must take every measure possible to protect civilians. All parties and the international community must renew efforts to de-escalate this threat to international peace and security.”
