2022 ELCA Churchwide Assembly
Monday-Friday, August 8-12, 2022
Columbus, OH
ELCA Churchwide Assemblies, which take place every three years, are the primary decision-making body of this church and are a process of communal spiritual discernment. When the Assembly convenes, its voting members meet with confidence in God’s grace around word and water, wine and bread, to carry on their work on behalf of the entire church.
During CWA, voting members will:
- Hear reports and review the work of churchwide officers, leaders and units;
- Receive and consider proposals from synod assemblies;
- Elect an ELCA Vice President;
- Establish ELCA churchwide policy;
- Worship together;
- Adopt a budget; and
- Conduct other business related to the ELCA churchwide organization.

LDR provides funding for disaster response through grants to synods and social ministry organizations to do the work and provide funds for people impacted by disasters. We are grateful to the support LDR has given us and also Inspiritus in the past to provide disaster response in our synod. Our neighbor synod in Kentucky has been hit very hard. Please consider this plea from LDR to address the devastation in Kentucky in the recent floods.
Lutheran Disaster Response is planning a long-term response to the severe flooding in #Kentucky and other states in the region.
Give today to support flood survivors: https://bit.ly/3JhfISv.
Please continue to hold all impacted by disaster in your prayers.

Figuring out what to say on social media and how often to say it can be one of the trickiest parts of social media ministry. In this training, you'll learn about the three basic types of social media posts, how to create a balanced content calendar, and some content design tips and tricks. Scalable to any sized congregation or ministry, by the end of the session you'll have inspiration and a framework to implement for fall and beyond. The focus of this workshop will be on Facebook and Instagram.

One component of the AMMPARO initiative, Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy Representation and Opportunities, previously known as the Unaccompanied and Migrant Children Initiative, is the ELCA Guardian Angels program. The program is the visible expression of our church’s ministry of presence in the lives of our women, men and children who are facing the unknown. As we participate in this ministry, we become transformed as well. The program also seeks to build community as church together and church for the sake of the world.
This program provides spiritual and physical accompaniment of unaccompanied migrant children and families through their immigration court process.
Guardian Angel Training to become a juvenile immigration court observer will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church in Atlanta on Sat. Sept 17 from 9:30 am-1:30 pm; refreshments will be included. This will be in-person training.

Twenty-five years ago, at the 1997 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, leaders of our church presented a case for establishing what we now know as the ELCA Fund for Leaders and challenged the church to make a robust commitment to theological education for its future leaders.

Turn the calendar to August and you may see numerous things to do before school starts. Our family already feels the sadness of saying goodbye to afternoons at the town pool. I’m going to miss the slow mornings to linger over coffee and books. The days will soon fill with classes, practices and meetings.
The beginning of the school year brings new rhythms and routines. Schedules change and new opportunities arise. Churches often begin new programs or add a worship service. We might feel as if everyone has something planned. Even before the start of school, many families feel overwhelmed and wonder how they’ll manage their time. The season is fun and exciting but also overwhelming...
