40 Days - 40 Miles - $40 for World Hunger

Around the globe, millions face food insecurity and famine.  In the Southeastern Synod, thousands are uncertain about where their next meal will come from.  In Alabama, 1 in 4 children are food insecure, as well as 1in 5 children in Mississippi, 1 in 6 children in Tennessee, and 1 in 6 children in Georgia.  At least 30 ELCA congregations and associated food ministries seek to provide food to the hungry in their communities. However, with the expiration of the extra food stamp benefits to families, food banks and feeding programs are bracing for an increase in families seeking food.

ELCA World Hunger partners with local ELCA congregations and food ministries to provide resources to address hunger and its root causes. In the past two years, ELCA World Hunger awarded domestic hunger grants to 3 Southeastern Synod ministries:  Christ Lutheran Church in Nashville, Inspiritus in Atlanta, and Stewpot Community Ministries in Jackson.

Please prayerfully consider making a gift to ELCA World Hunger this Lenten season, even if you are not able to walk in 2023 Forty for Lent Hunger Appeal (https://www.elca-ses.org/fortyforlent).  - Cheryl Bopp, Southeastern Synod World Hunger Chair.
